progress...

Things are progressing slowly on all my many different projects. My bag is mostly packed for Costa Rica, which is the earliest I've ever packed for anything. The bag is glorious, it's in a pattern called "Orange Juice Aloha", which is a fantastically accurate description, truly. It's bright orange, and a hawaiian, flowery print. It also has our last name stitched on it, so I can guarantee that I will never, ever have trouble recognizing it in an airport. Plus, it's huge, you could fit a dead body in it if you folded it in two.
My med kit is absolutely ridiculous. I not only bought an impressive first aid kit, I also am taking enough over the counter medications to treat a small village for a decade. Yeah, so I'm a little paranoid, but I'm a paranoid person who will have enough bug repellant to send all the mosquitos fleeing to Nicaragua. I am also anticipating that many of my fellow students will be significantly less prepared, so I should have enough of everything to share, which is always a good peace-building exercise, especially since we will be sleeping like 6 to a room and will likely be stinky from chasing after the monkeys.
I got my passport, which is a huge relief seeing as I sent away for it at the last possible minute. I was afraid it wasn't going to make it in time, so I'm glad I don't have to worry about that little heart attack. I don't think mine is RFID chipped, because its in the old format, but I bought an RFID proof sleeve for it off of ebay, just in case. Again with the paranoia, see?
More good news! I get to work in the brand-spanking-new Biological Anthropology Research Lab at HSU! Sooo excited :) I'll be heading up the genetics research, focusing in genetic bottlenecks in mammals and specifically primates, with the intention being to apply it to Dr. Glenn's research on Cercopithecus Mona in Grenada. I am so effing excited about this, it represents a huge shift in my education. Beyond just taking classes now, I'm able to focus in on the things I'm really interested in and get units for directing my own study. This is AWESOME!
Even better news! I am officially and auntie! My brothers lovely fiance gave birth to my beautiful neice, Alyssa Nicole, on April 25 :) I haven't gotten to see her yet, but she's the prettiest baby ever, I totally promise. I can't wait to see her :)
One last thing: GO SEE HOT FUZZ. It's fucking hilarious.

*fierce gnashing of teeth*

I am so fucking disappointed in this country. As far as I'm concerned, I hope we just emigrate to Canada when I finish school, I never want to fucking come back here ever, and I'd rather put my brain and efforts into a country that values it's women instead of treating them like walking fucking baby factories. I wish those fascist pricks in the Supreme Court could get pregnant for once.
