just reflecting

reason # 928,498 why I have the best guy ever is that he is always more stubborn than me. this is important because he never gives up trying to make me feel better, to make me talk about things until everything is okay, who never gives up on being there for me when I need him.

some quotes

"You can only be free if I am free."
Clarence Darrow

"The same people who can deny others everything
are famous for refusing themselves nothing."
Leigh Hunt

"You do not become a ''dissident'' just because you decide one day to take up this most unusual career. You are thrown into it by your personal sense of responsibility, combined with a complex set of external circumstances. You are cast out of the existing structures and placed in a position of conflict with them.
It begins as an attempt to do your work well, and ends with being branded an enemy of society."
Vaclav Havel

let the bitching begin

I hate Bush. I hate Bush so much that if hating someone caused the physical pain, he would be curled up in the fetal position screaming right now. I am so fucking irritated over his push for a constitutional ammendment to ban gay marriage, an I think it's the most ridiculous and bothersome thing that I've ever heard.

*he said that marriage has remained unchanged all this time and that courts shouldn't be allowed to change that. Thats a bunch of fucking bullshit, because if it were true then women would still be the legal property of their husbands, divorce would be illegal, and remarriage would also be illegal. not to mention the fact that interracial marriage would be illegal, and most people would never marry anyone outside their religion. besides that, marriage would be only in a church, instead of in courthouses and such like that for people who aren't christian. so don't fucking tell me that marriage has remained unchanged.

*Bush and the conservatives always talk about how granting gays the right to marry is a step down a slippery slope to all kinds of changes to marriage. Is it just me, or is manipulating the Constitution of the united states to discriminate against people an even more slippery slope? next they'll want an ammendment to put prayer in schools, or to establish christianity as the official religion of this country. or maybe they'll want to ban interracial marriages next? I don't care if you're for or against gay marriage, THIS SHOULD BOTHER YOU! If they can take rights away from gay people, they can take rights away from straight people too, not to mention women and minorities.

*I love how Bush has spent his entire godforsaken presidency stomping all over the constitution and the bill of rights, but now that it suits him to do so he is trying to go back and use those same documents to further his own agenda. I can't believe what a huge fucking hypocrite the man is, and a dangerous hypocrite at that. He does the same thing with religion, using it when it's convenient for him and disregarding all that doesn't suit his motives.

Coolest. Mom. Ever.

So my mother. A few years ago when the whole Prop 22 was on the ballot me and her got into a hugemongous fight over the whole gay marriage thing. She wasn't necessarily against gays having their own civil union things, she just didn't think it should be called marriage, and she didn't think they should be able to adopt. This, naturally, was completely repulsive to me, and we had a very long, very loud argument about it.

Fast forward to today. I asked her what she thought about the whole San Francisco thing, and she said that she thinks it's fine that gays are getting married, but that unfortunately she thinks it'll probably get struck down in the courts. It's nice to know that, after years of loving my closest gay friends as if they were her own children, she's finally come around, and it makes me really proud that she's my mom. Woot, indeed.

I hate Ralph Nader. I hated him four years ago when he helped Bush win the white house, and I fucking hate him even more now that he intends to do it again. Doesn't he realize that in order to get rid of Bush we all need to get behind whatever candidate runs against him with the best chance of winning? He's got to fucking know he's not going to win, no third party candidate since the two party system started has ever won the election, not for presidency anyway. *stacy smash*

read this if you're thinking of voting for Nader

12 Reasons Same-Sex Marriage will Ruin Society

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid becasue they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire counrty. That's why we have only one religion in America.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never suceed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or longer lifespans.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "seperate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Seperate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as seperate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

so today I made my first contact sheet and my first enlargement in photography... it was really exciting and I'm finding that it definitely appeals to my desire to create, to make art and all that stuff. San Francisco was great, and I had a blast hanging out with Stevie (we went to a pretty people party and hung out in China town for the Chinese new year.) I'm tired now, and back in school and there are 33 days left until spring break. I'm doing okay I guess, not much to write about (at least not that I'd feel comfortable discussing in such a public space.) my life is on hold, as always, until I get back home and back into my own life instead of this foreign place that somehow has no relevence when I leave it. the only thing I really enjoy anymore is my photo class, and I don't even really have a desire to take pictures here. so.... yeah.
